The connection drawn between Averbakh’s medical background and his filmmaking style is a fascinating lens. It makes the theatrical, almost clinical framing of the characters’ emotional isolation feel even more intentional and poignant. That Chekhovian pathos really comes through in your description of the aunt as the story’s delicate, cultured soul.
