If religion can be classified as a cult then Romania’s “Beyond The Hills” deserves a mention. An utterly scary film on the powers of persuasion and influence.

I’d suggest “Holy Smoke” (1999). Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel, directed and cowritten by Jane Campion. Winslet’s family believes she’s fallen in with a cult and hires deprogrammer Keitel to free her from it. It doesn’t go as planned.
